Patriotism was in the air as the second and third grade Music classes, directed by Mrs. Elaine Williams, presented a program for parents, staff, and the community. The "Show Choir" also presented a great medley of patriotic songs. WHAT A WONDERFUL PROGRAM that motivated all who attended with a special pride in our country! The students shined as they smiled and sang at the top of their voices. Kudos to Mrs. Williams and your classes on a job WELL-DONE!!!!!

Students Practice Geometry Skills through ART!
Students looked at a variety of art work to see the different geometric shapes. Students studied the art work of Jean Ware, a native of Mississippi, who now resides in Texas. Mrs. Land was able to purchase a picture of Forest, MS that was painted by Mrs. Ware. Mrs. Land was excited about the picture because she grew up in Forest and the picture was a reminder of those early days in Forest. The students were challenged to think of elements of design in the picture and create their own picture of a "made-up" town.
Zamaiya is very excited about the town that she has created.
Georgia has some of the same buildings as the artist, Jean Ware.
Squares, Triangles, Rhombus, and Parallelograms, WOW!!!

I see a Rhombus, a Trapezoid, and a Parallelogram!!!
Shibrena's picture is as neat as she is.
Jordan gets a better look. Mrs. Land takes very good care of her prized picture!!!

Having fun as we learn!!!

KeShawn wants to know if this is a fence or a railroad track????

Mrs. Ware did a wonderful job painting this picture of Forest, MS. Mrs. Land is very proud of the picture. She remembers shopping in some of the stores in later years.

Trevaughn smiles as he discovers a special truck in the picture.

Art Students thrill Open Doors Students
Art students from Holmes Community College visited the Open Doors students at Van Winkle to show them about different art that they have done and to do some projects with the students. The students enjoyed hearing the legend of the "DREAMCATCHER" and then making these to take home. Students showed the art students the work that they were doing on life size portraits to be displayed at the end of the year. The students who came to Van Winkle were Brandy, KG, and Timothy. At the end of the session, Mrs. Land told her students that Timothy is her nephew.

Timothy works with the students making Dream Catchers.

Mrs. Land tells the students that she thinks Timothy will be famous one day and students ask for autographs!!!

"KG" gives out autographs also. She wants to be a teacher someday soon.

Students pose with their self-portraits.

Timothy wants lots of pictures of the students' work.

DeKiya shows her true personality in this picture.

Mrs. Land poses with her self-portrait. Students wonder if Mrs. Land is doing the "FLEX" in her picture!!!

Mrs. Land hinted for nephew Timothy to turn this picture over to his "Aunt"!!!

Timothy DID give this one to Aunt Anne!!! She was thrilled. This picture was inspired by the New Orleans Saints WIN!!!

"KG" shows her beautiful work.

Brandi loved working with the students. Her picture was not finished so she could not bring it.
