JumpStart Art Project

Students in the third grade classes have had an exciting two weeks of working with self-proclaimed "Drama Queen" Malaika Quarterman from Jackson. This project is sponsored as part of the Ask for More Arts grant and the JumpStart Grant by the Ford Foundation. There are twenty one schools in JPS who had an artist to come work with the students in some art form. The theme of this art project for the third grade students at our school has been "Trading Places". Students have participated in several activities in which they were able to see what it would be like to trade places with someone else. There has been much brainstorming, creative thinking, and excitement as students plan and practice for the grand finale performance on Friday morning.

Students in Art Expressions looked at SOME of the art of Leonardo Divinci. The skill that the students were learning this week fell under the curriculum track of Creativity which has four areas: Fluency, Flexibility, Originality and Elaboration. On this particular activity the students were working on ELABORATION. Students changed and added to Divinci's famous painting, Mona Lisa. They were quite creative as the presented their art work. Some turned MONA LISA into a puppet; others, a beauty queen; still others, had her as a Sumo Wrestler or sportsman. Thanks to A4MA for inspiring the ART in us!!!

Marissa enjoys this art project.

Warren enjoyed working with this picture. It was so much fun having grandma visit the art expression class.

Olivia concentrates as she finishes her picture.

Melody is very proud of the work that she did on her MONA LISA.
