Art Students thrill Open Doors Students
Art students from Holmes Community College visited the Open Doors students at Van Winkle to show them about different art that they have done and to do some projects with the students. The students enjoyed hearing the legend of the "DREAMCATCHER" and then making these to take home. Students showed the art students the work that they were doing on life size portraits to be displayed at the end of the year. The students who came to Van Winkle were Brandy, KG, and Timothy. At the end of the session, Mrs. Land told her students that Timothy is her nephew.

Timothy works with the students making Dream Catchers.

Mrs. Land tells the students that she thinks Timothy will be famous one day and students ask for autographs!!!

"KG" gives out autographs also. She wants to be a teacher someday soon.

Students pose with their self-portraits.

Timothy wants lots of pictures of the students' work.

DeKiya shows her true personality in this picture.

Mrs. Land poses with her self-portrait. Students wonder if Mrs. Land is doing the "FLEX" in her picture!!!

Mrs. Land hinted for nephew Timothy to turn this picture over to his "Aunt"!!!

Timothy DID give this one to Aunt Anne!!! She was thrilled. This picture was inspired by the New Orleans Saints WIN!!!

"KG" shows her beautiful work.

Brandi loved working with the students. Her picture was not finished so she could not bring it.

FIELD TRIP to NEW STAGE THEATER AND MISSISSIPPI ART CENTER
The Fourth grade students at Van Winkle were excited to spend the day on a field trip to see what goes on in an actual stage production at New Stage Theater and then on to the Mississippi Arts Center to view the work that they did with the artist from New Stage. Students were very excited as they got to learn about how a set is made, and how the lights work, and all of the valuable information that was shared by New Stage Theater artists. The administration, staff, and students are thankful to Ask for More Arts and The Ford Foundation for providing these valuable experiences at our school.

Dr. Suess Day!!!
Celebrating the birthday of Dr. Suess was made perfect with the wonderful volunteer readers from Mississippi College and the community. Ms. Sasser organized and planned a great event enjoyed by all. Students donned their "Suess" hats and enjoyed hearing the stories read by the volunteer readers. Even lunch was made special as students wore their hats as they ate. Students in the younger Montessori classes got to experience Green Eggs and Ham as they tasted "green" eggs. WHAT a GREAT DAY!!! We are so thankful to all who helped make this day special.
