Sculptures in Open Doors
Students took wire and sculpted it into a stick person. The students then wrapped the figure with tape. They shaped the figure into a shape to represent them in some way. Some students created cheerleaders, some created knights, ball players, etc. The hard part for the students was finishing the sculpture with a five paragraph essay about their sculpture. Mrs.Land explained to the students about the importance of following through with each project with a discussion and writing about WHY the project was important and the areas in the curriculum strands experienced in the sculpture project. The students decided that communication, group dynamics, autonomous learning, research (inward evaluation) and creativity were all some of the strands covered in this project.

More Work from Open Doors
Students in Mrs. Land's room have been doing much work in learning about themselves and exploring how they learn. Students in grades 2 and 3 are working on quilt squares in which they painted self-portraits. The teacher talked with the students about different artist who did self-portraits like Van Gogh. The students in grades 4 and 5 made sculptures out of wire and related the items used in the sculpture to characteristics of themselves. These will be pictured in upcoming posts. Students are looking forward to the projects being viewed by their parents at the Parent/Teacher conferences.

"All About Me"
Students in Open Doors Classes have worked on project that reveal characteristics and explorations into themselves. So much fun and a lot of learning has taken place as students have enjoyed painting, sculpting, exploring, and thinking "outside the box" on these projects. We hope you enjoy the pictures from the hard work by the students.
