To celebrate Arbor Day, students in the gifted class planted 16 trees donated by the Soil and Water Conservation. Trees were planted around the new walking track and in one of the classroom gardens. Students and the teacher were very excited when Mr. Land came to help them plant the trees.

Mr. Land helps students plant some trees.

"We need to water these trees, right?"

"This is so much fun!"

Students put mulch in the holes, as well as the big, earthworms.

"THIS IS HARD WORK."

A Crepe Myrtle is planted.

The dirt is very hard. We hope the trees survive.

READING IS FUNDAMENTAL

RIF(READING IS FUNDAMENTAL) is a wonderful program offered to the students at our school. From three to four times a year, the students are allowed to choose a free book to take home. The students love these book distributions. To celebrate the season of Valentine's Day, our theme was, WE LOVE TO READ! We are so thankful to the Junior League who make this book distribution possible.

Mr. Yarbro, from Southside Baptist volunteers to stamp the books.

"I am proud of my new book!"

Beads from New Orleans Friends!

Friends from New Orleans, Nancy and Mason, donated a sackful of Mardi Gras beads to the students in the Gifted Class. When the bag arrived, this group of students decided to decorate themselves. The beads will be used in unusual arts and crafts including mosaics of the states that the students are studying. The students LOVE to get these types of donations. Nancy also sent yarn to be used for different projects. Thanks to Nancy and Mason for this contribution.
